China: sales opportunity for higher margin products

In 1984 Sinar Mas started its food business in China by acquiring Zhuhai Hua Feng Food Group. The main focus was on snacks. Now, the company will shift its focus from snacks with a lower profit margin toward nutrition and health food products with a higher profit margin. The new products including energy supplements and plant fiber healthy drinks.

Fast growing markets in China

China’s health and nutrition food markets are lagging behind when compared to, for example Europe, this gives European firms a head start in the Chinese market.
